Over on the Elden Ring Twitter account, it has been mentioned that release of Elden Ring Tarnished Edition, which is in development for the Nintendo Switch 2, has been delayed until 2026.
While development on #ELDENRING Tarnished Edition continues wholeheartedly toward release, we have decided to move the launch to 2026 to allow time for performance adjustments.
We apologize to players looking forward to the game and thank you for your patience and support. pic.twitter.com/TsLrhAWIGc

While I applaud Bandai Namco and FromSoftware for delaying the game, and rightfully so, based on what I have seen and experienced during multiple hands-on sessions at past gaming events, I was not impressed with what I played. This also goes against what some have reportedly stated about the game being in great shape and running well, which, from my experience, was not the case.
This is fantastic news for Nintendo Switch 2 owners interested in playing Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition on the platform. Especially since Elden Ring has been out for years across multiple platforms and still suffers from a number of performance issues that have yet to be addressed. This is coming from someone who has played the title on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, and has always wondered why FromSoftware had not fixed those problems.
Seeing them delay the Switch 2 release makes me confident that the handheld version might actually launch in much better shape. At least, I really hope so. Especially since we’ve seen a number of titles that were originally released on other platforms and ended up with less than stellar ports on the Switch 2.
Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition originally rumored early in 2025 and was officially announced for the Nintendo Switch 2 as of April 2025. As someone who has over 1000 hours of Elden Ring under his belt, you’d think I’d be finished, but I’m curious on how the game would play on the Switch 2 and am looking forward to the title.
