Funcom’s ambitious upcoming open-world survival MMO Dune: Awakening is pushing back its release date by three weeks, moving from its original launch window to June 10, with a head start for early access players beginning June 5, 2025.
In a new developer update shared today, the team acknowledged the high anticipation surrounding the game, especially with the ongoing Persistent Closed Beta and a major preview event currently underway. Hundreds of journalists and content creators are now getting early access to the game’s opening hours, with coverage set to go live on April 25, 2025. Needless to say, if you haven’t been following the game or wanted more info, it’s coming – very soon.
As for the delay, Funcom states that this will give the team time to implement key feedback from beta testers and polish the experience ahead of launch. “These three extra weeks will give us the time needed to make improvements that will lead to a better gameplay experience from day one,” the message reads.
Dune: Awakening, which combines survival gameplay with large-scale multiplayer in the sprawling deserts of Arrakis, has been building momentum with regular livestreams, pre-orders, and the release of its Character Creator & Benchmark Mode back in February. According to Funcom, feedback from active beta testers on Discord and other channels has been “invaluable” in shaping the game.
As part of the revised roadmap, Funcom also teased a large-scale beta weekend coming in May 2025, where more players will get hands-on time and the opportunity to share their feedback. Details on that are expected soon.
In the meantime, fans can tune in to the Dune: Awakening Livestream #2, which focuses on combat today at 9 AM PT/12 PM ET/6 PM CEST on YouTube, where developers will offer a deeper dive into combat mechanics.
Dune: Awakening will be released for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on June 10th, 2025.
