Two years ago, I had the pleasure of reviewing Disgaea 7. Disgaea is a series that I have been a fan of practically since I started playing the games on PSP. So hearing that Disgaea 7 Complete was on its way made me hyped. Getting a complete edition is not new for the series. Many Disgaea such as 4, 5, and 6, got complete editions. These versions include all the DLC from the original base game alongside some added goodies.

Disgaea 7 is a story of Yuji and Pirilika finding all the infernal treasures, which are weapons. They have to contend with the Shogunate as they learn more and more about this section of the Netherworld. I really loved the cast and was happy to revisit these characters.
The Good
Most of the extra content, like the DLC from the base game, is available right from the get-go. All the stages that housed the previous Disgaea characters were available to choose right after the tutorial stage was done. These characters all come with their own gear that gives them good offensive power. Granted, they don’t have any defensive gear attached to them, so you still have to equip them for later fights. These DLC characters make it much faster to complete the story so you can start the end game.
Disgaea 7 Complete is optimized well for Nintendo Switch 2. One of the problems I had performance wise in the original game was the lobby. It would stutter at times if you jumped up and down too often. I tested it on this version and it ran smooth even during jumping. The way it looked on the Nintendo Switch 2’s screen in handheld mode was a visual delight as well. This game feels designed for handheld use.
The original Disgaea 7 had a bill in the dark assembly that would show up for the main playable cast that would allow you to remove caps off their stats. It didn’t work if you wanted to use it for your custom created characters. This is changed in Disgaea 7 Complete. Now if you are like me and use some of the custom units you can create and want to bring them to the end game with uncapped stats, it is available to you! Yay lady Samurai units can be more useful now!
The Bad
There is a new much anticipated playable character at the end of the new story chapter, Asagi. Asagi isn’t a bad unit but I already had my team built the way I liked it by the end of the new story chapter. It is cool to include an exclusive character to Disgaea 7 Complete but with how late they get integrated into the game, I didn’t feel like her inclusion added much to the core experience. Maybe in the next Disgaea Asagi will actually matter more to the roster. Maybe I just feel like Asagi should have been earlier since all the other DLC characters were added so early to my main roster.
Disgaea 7 Complete is a good package but overall it doesn’t justify itself as a reason to get if you already have the original game. I loved Disgaea 7 and I think that game is worth a purchase. It is even $10 cheaper brand new than Disgaea 7 Complete. Or even cheaper if you can find it used or on a sale. The DLC is nice to have but it isn’t necessary and it makes the core experience a little too easy for my taste. You don’t have to struggle to learn its mechanics or how much jumbify makes the core game an evolution to the Disgaea experience.
The Verdict
Disgaea 7 Complete is a fantastic purchase if you own a Nintendo Switch 2 and don’t own Disgaea 7 already. If you are a hardcore fan then it is worth grabbing for the Asagi character to add to the collection. Otherwise I would say stick with getting the base version of the game. Disgaea 7 Complete does build on the original and having the DLC immediately is nice, but the base game didn’t really need the DLC.
Disgaea 7 Complete will release on October 10th, 2025, for Nintendo Switch 2. You can read our review of the base game too.

Summary
Disgaea 7 Complete is the best way to play Disgaea 7. It includes all the DLC from the original base game and more. It may not add much to the core of Disgaea 7 but it really doesn’t need to.

- Lovable cast returns with new content and harder challenges
- Most the DLC is available at the beginning of the game
- Runs smooth on Switch 2
Cons
- Asagi arrives late to the party
- Not a lot justifies buying it over the original title
