Digimon Story Time Stranger Talks About New Enhancement Systems

Key art for Digimon Story Time Stranger

Earlier today, PlayStation Blog posted an update about some new information about Digimon Story Time Stranger. The blog starts out introducing the concept of Digimon for those who might not be familiar with the series. Digimon are digital monsters that possess characteristics from “organic matter and electric signals”.

Diving Into The Systems Of Digimon Story Time Stranger

PlayStation writes that the battle system will be element and turn-based, similar to the previous Digimon Story games Cyber Sleuth and Hacker’s Memory.

  • “Attribute: Vaccine, Virus, Data, Free, Variable, and others (7 total)
  • Element: Fire, Water, Plant, and others (11 total)”

It is interesting to note that the other Digimon Story games had four attributes: Vaccine, Virus, Data, and No Relation. Variable will be new, and then we have three more to look forward to. There are also nine Elements in the older games. These are Fire, Water, Plant, Earth, Electric, Wind, Light, Dark, and Neutral. That means there are two new ones in this upcoming game.

PlayStation also revealed that there will be 16 personality types in the upcoming Digimon Story Time Stranger. The older titles had eight personality types, which means it will be doubled for this new title. The personality types that were in the older games were Durable, Lively, Fighter, Defender, Brainy, Nimble, Builder, and Searcher. They affected a lot of things, with most of them important in the Digifarms.

It sounds like the personality system is revamped, as it will impact even more factors in your Digimon. Not just the Digifarm but also the way Digimon level up, and even how they Digivolve. Luckily, it sounds like Patches will be making a return, which allows you to change the personality of a Digimon.

A new system that will be in place for the new Digimon Story game is Agent Skills. These are skills that the player’s character can utilize. This serves as the skill tree for the player. The agent skills you unlock will have passive effects that can help your Digimon in battle.

Another feature discussed in the blog is cross-skills. You can combine your Digivice with a Digimon’s power to unleash a skill that can boost your Digimon’s chances at victory. These can be buffs, healing effects, or adding a follow-up attack to your Digimons. More of these become available as you increase your Agent rank. Increase your Agent rank by doing missions and progressing the story in the game.

All of these systems together should add a dynamic and strategic feel to combat. We will have to wait til its release on October 3rd before we can feel just how dynamic and strategic it truly is. Digimon Story Time Stranger will be released on October 3rd, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
