Currently, we only know about a few sets of games slated to arrive on the Nintendo Switch 2, either on its June 5th launch date or sometime thereafter. Most of the games showcased during the Direct from three weeks ago focused on the 2025 release period. Inevitably, more announcements will follow, raising many questions about which games or franchises could make an appearance on this highly anticipated system. On that note, in an interview with Danny Pena, Diablo 4 head Rod Fergusson discussed the possibility of a port to the new console.
More specifically, he said:
“I think there’s an opportunity there for sure. I mean you have Diablo 3 and Diablo 2: Resurrected on Switch and with backwards compatibility they’ll be playable on Switch 2. It’s nice Switch 2 has the performance that can run a game like Diablo 4, so yeah, it’s something to look at for sure. I think that the challenge is less around the hardware and just about how we – live services on Switch have been a little bit challenging in the past, and so I’m hopeful that as they launch this June and as we look to the future that becomes easier and easier so it makes more sense to put a live service on the platform.”
It’s fair that Rod would want microtransactions to be worked out, as that’s a key part of the dungeon crawler’s “function,” if you will. The reason that this could be a big win for the Nintendo Switch 2 is that Microsoft has teased via Phil Spencer that many Xbox titles will come to the platform. This game was made by Activision Blizzard, which is owned by Microsoft now, so that would qualify as one of their “potential ports.”
