CD Project Red Reveals Surprising Cyberpunk 2077 Switch 2 Info

Could this change things in the future?

There’s currently a massive debate going on with the Nintendo Switch 2. No, it’s not about the price, but instead, it’s about the game key-card issue. Nintendo presented this option to developers so that they could ensure certain 3rd-party support across the Switch 2’s lifecycle. However, many have fairly noted that the system doesn’t help with game preservation, and will basically go “out of effect” once certain things happen outside of the gamer’s control. Then, there’s CD Projekt Red, who released a port of Cyberpunk 2077 on the Switch 2, and it’s been doing very well on the platform.

They released the game via a full cartridge. As in, the game is fully on the cartridge, no download required. In a special financial briefing report, CD Projekt Red revealed that over 75% of the sales for Cyberpunk 2077 on Nintendo’s new console were from that physical copy option:

Why does this matter? Simply put, there are many who want 3rd party developers to follow what CDPR did here and only do physical copies of games, not key-cards. Nintendo even did a survey asking fans how they prefer to buy games, which could also lead to changes in the future.

Nintendo has changed courses in the past due to fan feedback, so nothing is out of reach here.
