Capcom has released a brand-new free roguelike game mode for Resident Evil Requiem, and if you thought Leon S. Kennedy was done fighting, think again.
Starting today, players across the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store can jump into “LEON MUST DIE FOREVER,” an extra action-focused mode that unlocks after completing the main story. That’s right, you need to beat the game first before you can give this new game mode a try. Also, if this sounds familiar, it should be…. Ethen Must Die from Resident Evil 7, anyone?
According to Capcom, the mode leans heavily into the faster-paced combat side of the franchise, putting players back into previously visited areas while facing stronger enemy variants and a brutal race against the clock.
Players can also unlock special “enhancer abilities” for Leon by filling a combat gauge through enemy kills, giving the mode an arcade-like progression system that encourages repeat runs. Each playthrough changes up the order of stages and available upgrades, which should help keep the mode from feeling repetitive, especially across the five increasing difficulty ranks.
And while this isn’t the story DLC that fans are waiting for, keep in mind that this is a free DLC. This ain’t what you’re waiting on. This is just something to keep fans busy, keep people playing while the story DLC is being worked on.
Capcom also confirmed that the update includes several bug fixes across all platforms, while PC players now gain support for the DualSense wireless controller’s adaptive triggers, haptic feedback, and motion controls.
In our Resident Evil Requiem review, we praised the game for successfully balancing the franchise’s survival horror roots with the more explosive action elements the series became known for over the years.
Resident Evil Requiem is available for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC.
