bloom by NECRY TALKIE Opening Theme to Scott Pilgrim Takes Off Out Now

By Josh PiedraNovember 21, 2023

Milan Records has released “bloom,” the new track by Japanese rock band NECRY TALKIE and the opening theme to SCOTT PILGRIM TAKES OFF, Netflix’s hugely-anticipated anime series based on the film by Edgar Wright and the hit comic series by Bryan Lee O’Malley.

Scott Pilgrim

Available everywhere now, “bloom” marks Necry Talkie’s first-ever musical contribution to both a Netflix series as well as an international title. Produced by Japan’s Science SARU (Devilman Crybaby, Inu-Oh) and featuring the original cast of the 2010 live-action film reprising their roles as voice actors, Scott Pilgrim Takes Off is available now on Netflix – watch here.

Of the track, Necry Talkie guitarist and lyricist/composer of “bloom,” ASAHI, says,

“The atmosphere of the original manga and the live-action movie are surprisingly different. Compared to the fast pace of the movie, the manga is more decadent, and both have different vectors that deeply affect me. I wanted to incorporate as much as possible of what I received from all of them into this anime theme song, so the introspective lyrics were inspired by the original work, the distorted bass sound was inspired by the band in the movie, and the cute synthesizer sound was inspired by the game-like effects that were present in the movie. I did my best to make sure that people who witness the opening of this anime for the first time will think, ‘It’s good!’ I hope you enjoy Scott Pilgrim Takes Off as much as I do.”
