Not only did today’s Genshin Impact livestream reveal the region of Snezhnaya for the first time, but it also included some extra behind-the-scenes looks at its creation. The next region coming to Genshin Impact is Snezhnaya, and it is highly anticipated.
The first thing Xiadon, the R&D Engineer, notes is why Snezhnaya is as anticipated as it is. First off, it is the home of Cryo. It is the current stronghold for the Fatui, and it is the main headquarters of the Adventurer’s Guild. Aquaria, the Combat Designer, notes that Snezhnaya is where a lot of the plot threads from other regions lead towards.
Snezhnaya in Genshin Impact has had influence over much of the other regions thanks to the Fatui using its technology. It is also home to an ancient race called the Fae. The might of the region of Snezhnaya has to be big and ambitious enough to defy the Heavenly Principles. This is where all the gnoses are going that we have been tracking down throughout the game.
The developers also note that in the story of Genshin Impact, the Archons chose to give the Fatui their Gnoses for a small price. This small price being enough to make the Archons give their tie to Celestia away signifies that they believe whatever the Tsaritsa is doing might be what they consider best for Tevyat as a whole. This motivation will be revealed in the region of Snezhnaya and will even be confirmed in this upcoming story chapter.
One other thing they note is that trains serve a large purpose in Snezhnaya. They don’t want it to be only a means of transportation. They intend to include more gameplay mechanics in the game that will utilize the trains.

If there is one word to describe Cryo in the premise of Genshin Impact, it is Preservation. It can be thought of as storing or preserving. That is what they want the aspect of Snezhnaya to convey. One thing I am excited about seeing is the enemy behavior change that is talked about in the livestream. They note that the Fatui in Snezhnaya are trained, disciplined, and coordinated. They will be reacting to you fighting their teammates and acting accordingly. This might give a stronger advantage to area of effect abilities and how they can interact with other enemies nearby. This also might mean stealth might be a viable strategy in-game to just not interact with them. Generally, in Genshin Impact, enemy behavior is based on aggro and proximity. If you are close to an enemy who is aggressive, they will attack you. If you are close to an enemy who is not aggressive, they won’t do anything. This might make a change to having non-aggressive enemies actually coming to help out the aggressive ones.
Genshin Impact’s foray into Snezhnaya will also be a way for the team to amplify certain elemental reactions. The team notes that this region is about going beyond the rules. So reactions will act differently, and Cryo won’t act the same way you are used to.
The Traveler will get a new outfit! Finally! One of my disappointments with the game was in Inazuma, and Ayaka asks the traveler if they want to grab a kimono to wear to an event. The traveler declines and wants to use the same outfit they always wear everywhere.
Hoyoverse intends to add more visual updates, starting with this region. New characters will have a more premium visual design. It will still match the current visual design aesthetics of Genshin Impact. The team at Hoyoverse doesn’t want to rush the ending story of Genshin Impact, but it also doesn’t want to elongate the ending either for capital gain.
The program ends with a redemption code that also signifies when the new region launches. “SNEZHNAYA20260812”. The new region update launches August 12th 2026. We are in the year of the start of the culmination, where everything ties together.
