The OVA, Unanswered//butterfly that is coming with the upcoming video game Echoes of Aincrad just got a brand new trailer. If you are just as excited as I am, then you are keeping up with almost every new trailer announcement. We get to see two individuals who get stuck in Sword Art Online. The anime is focused on these two characters. Emirun and Rex. Emirun is described as an innocent and cheerful girl. Rex is described as just a young man at the mercy of Emirun’s whims. The two of them team up to survive the death game of Sword Art Online in Unanswered//butterfly.
There is a scene in the trailer where Asuna and Emirun duel. This likely means Asuna will also play a part in the story. Unanswered//butterfly must take place on Floor 2 as Kirito is being called by his moniker, Beater. The characters go towards a scream and see Kirito. Emirun and Rex talk to Asuna about how meeting Kirito changed her life. Asuna breaks down as she discovers more dead players that seem to be related to Kirito.
More mysteries keep piling up in this game, and more characters keep getting introduced. Even the two main leads for Echoes of Aincrad show up in the trailer. I am excited to see what else we get to see for Unanswered//butterfly as it comes out at the same time as Echoes of Aincrad.
Echoes of Aincrad releases July 10th, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. If you want to be able to own the special anime episode Unanswered//butterfly, it requires you to grab the ultimate edition of the game.
