SNK has firmed up the timeline for Mr. Big’s arrival in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves. The Art of Fighting boss has already been tied into South Town’s story in several character endings, often portrayed as the one holding all the cards. Because of this, Rock and Kain have formed an uneasy alliance to rescue their relative, Marie Heinlein, whom Rock once believed was long gone. Mr. Big’s EOST and Arcade Mode should flesh out even more of this backstory.
Mr. Big has always played a role in South Town’s power struggles. With Geese now officially “dead”, the crime lord finally has room to step in and influence the future, though not without resistance. This isn’t his King of Fighters turf. Ryo may be absent, but seeing Mr. Big square off against Terry Bogard, the successor of the tournament, is something special. Meanwhile, fighters like Marco may finally get the chance to settle things their masters started years ago. Final Fantasy XVI voice actor Marc Graue brings authority to the character’s performance.
Mr. Big has appeared across multiple SNK titles, proving he’s more than a ladies’ man and very much a businessman with reach. He was part of the Orochi Saga alongside Geese and Krauser in King of Fighters ‘96, and made additional roster appearances in King of Fighters XI, ‘98 Ultimate Match, and Neo Geo Battle Coliseum. His iconic Arnis sticks return, complete with their electrifying effects, and it looks like he’s even bringing a new stage with him.
The iconic crime boss retains several of his classic moves, including the Ground Blaster projectile. His California Romance uppercut returns with the ability to cancel into the air Rev Blow, which looks to be one of his strongest combo tools. His Crazy Drum forward strike also appears in the trailer, alongside his Blaster Wave DM. And of course, Mr. Big still electrocutes opponents using his Hidden Gear. His defensive playstyle seems intact, echoing his older South Town incarnation.
Mr. Big closes out the first DLC run for City of the Wolves, and what’s wild is that he arrives only a month after Chun-Li’s debut. Andy, Ken, and Joe are already live. With Season 1 wrapped, that leaves the door open for SNK to dip into its deep roster for Season 2. Maybe it’s time for some long-requested classics to return. Mr. Big joins the cast on December 9.
