Nintendo Wants To Release Consistent Movie Content Going Forward

Lights, camera, Nintendo action!!!
By Todd BlackNovember 5, 2025

When Nintendo first said that they wanted to make movies again, fans were rightfully scared. Let’s not forget that they did make a movie with Mario & Luigi once upon a time, and it was one of the most…um…well, hated movies ever. Seriously, even the actors didn’t like talking about it that much. Anyway, things eventually turned around in 2023, when they released The Super Mario Bros Movie alongside Illumination, and it made a billion dollars. Next year, the Super Mario Galaxy movie will attempt to repeat the same thing, and after that, there will be a live-action Legend of Zelda movie.

That’s quite a one-two punch, and in the latest financial briefing, The Big N noted that they want to build a “framework for a consistent release cadence” and that “we are continuing to prepare for the ongoing release of movies in the future.”

So, now the question is, “What will they make next?” I’ve actually talked about this on our Big N-themed podcast, and the options are numerous. For example, Samus Aran comes to mind for an epic live-action adventure. Plus, she has a game coming out in a month, so many people will have her on their minds.

The “dream goal” for many, though, would be to have a Super Smash Bros movie or animated series happen, but that would take quite a lot of building. Finally, there’s Donkey Kong, who was already established in Mario’s first animated movie, and could easily be put into a solo role.

It’s clear the gaming giant wants to make it work, so let’s see what they cook!
