Don’t you just love it when irony drops something funny in your lap? No sooner did we make a post about how well Pokemon Legends Z-A was doing in Japan than we got a press release from The Pokémon Company revealing how well the game had sold in its first week. If you recall, there was a lot of “hesitation” over the game’s release, especially after those on Metacritic only gave the game an aggregated score of 80. However, gamers seemed not to mind that at all, as it has sold over 5.8 million units in a week.
To be clear, this is sales across both the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2. However, based on our translation of the document, the sales of Pokemon Legends Z-A were pretty evenly split between the two consoles. That means that the game was a million-seller on both, and many didn’t mind getting it on whatever system they had at the time.
This is a huge win for Nintendo, as they’re hoping this kind of sales boom continues across their other upcoming titles, including next month’s Kirby Air Riders.
Regardless, you can expect our review of the game to come soon, and we break down our initial thoughts of the game in the next episode of the Nintendo Entertainment Podcast!
