Assassin’s Creed Shadows Heads to Nintendo Switch 2

Ubisoft has officially announced that Assassin’s Creed Shadows will make its way to the Nintendo Switch 2 on December 2, 2025. This version has been fully optimized for all Switch 2 play modes, allowing players to experience the game at home or on the go. It will also support touch screen functionality, making it easier to navigate menus, maps, and your hideout.

Check out the announcement trailer.

Interestingly, this reveal comes shortly after the Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game was leaked ahead of schedule, as previously reported just last week. That leak hinted at a December release window and Switch-specific enhancements; details that have now been officially confirmed by Ubisoft.

At launch, the Switch 2 version will include all post-release updates introduced since the game debuted earlier this year. The only exception is the Claws of Awaji expansion, which is scheduled to arrive early next year.

“We are delighted to bring Assassin’s Creed Shadows to Nintendo players,” said Charles Benoit, Game Director of Assassin’s Creed Shadows. “Whether slipping through the shadows as Naoe or facing foes head-on as Yasuke, players will be able to roam the streets and rooftops of feudal Japan at home or anywhere their journey takes them on Nintendo Switch 2.”

Nintendo Switch 2 owners can pick up the Standard Edition for $59.99 at launch, either as a physical edition that includes a Switch 2 game-key card or as a digital download from the Nintendo eShop. A Premium Edition will be available digitally for $99.99. Cross-progression is supported through Ubisoft Connect, so you can continue your journey across platforms without missing a beat.

What wasn’t mentioned was the performance, which is on my mind. Let’s not beat around the bush, the Switch 2 isn’t the powerhouse that the PS5, or Xbox Series X|S are. And there’s a reason why Ubisoft passed on porting Assassin’s Creed Shadows to the PS4, Xbox One, or the Switch. So, of course I’m a bit concerned on what we’ll see in terms of frame rate and resolution. Still, it’s going to be impressive to see the game running on the Switch 2, and I’m looking forward to seeing just what Ubisoft manages to accomplish.

If you’ve read our Assassin’s Creed Shadows review, you know this entry hits the series sweet spot. The dual-protagonist setup gives you the quiet precision of Naoe, a shinobi Assassin, and the raw power of Yasuke, a samurai warrior. So, if you’re a Switch 2 owner who was dismayed that you couldn’t play the game on your platform, well, get happy, because it’s coming in a few months.
