OhSnap Launches MCON To Start A New Mobile Era Of Gaming

By Scott AdamsOctober 16, 2025
The box from two angles for the ohsnap MCON

Are you fed up with bringing a controller with you wherever you go to connect your phone? How about trying to deal with a bunch of cords and accessories that mess with your handle on your phone just so you can do some dailies in Genshin? Luckily, OhSnap has an answer to that problem and more with the new MCON. MCON is a unique way to connect your phone with a controller and then close it, allowing your phone to function as your phone.

It utilizes the MagSafe technology to securely attach to your phone, even when you put it in your pocket.

MCON can be used three ways – handheld, tabletop, or with a television. For tabletop play, gamers can remove the control cover, deploy the kickstand to prop up their smartphone, and use MCON in Kickback Mode. MCON can be connected to up to 3 devices, and gamers can quickly switch between them by double-tapping the pair button.

The Kickstarter for this device went viral and raised over $1.5 million.

MCON was born when (then 19-year-old) Josh King was frustrated with the stagnation of mobile gaming and missing the freedom of handhelds. He designed a pocketable MagSafe controller and gained overwhelming support on YouTube. Rising costs stalled progress on bringing his invention to market, and Josh turned to fellow entrepreneur, Ohsnap Founder Dale Backus, for help. Together, Josh and the Ohsnap team reignited the project, refining the design into a sleek, functional controller that transformed a dorm-room idea into a polished gaming device.

“It has been an incredible journey evolving MCON from my initial 3D prototype to the masterfully engineered gaming controller that it is today,” said King. “I cannot wait for gamers to get MCON on their phones so they can have a console-level experience anywhere.”

MCON’s Pre-orders are live at the OhSnap website.
