Octopath Traveler 0 Producer Explains Differences Between Mobile Title and Console Upgrade

They made sure not to make the same game twice.

It’s not uncommon for certain titles to get key “upgrades” when they move from one platform to another, especially if it’s from a mobile platform to a console platform. When Octopath Traveler 0 was announced, it was clear to those who had played a certain Square Enix mobile game that it was an “upgraded version” of that title. The question then became, “How much of an upgrade?” In an interview with Famitsu, Producer Hiroto Suzuki explained the differences, including how they couldn’t simply do a straight-up transfer of the mobile title to a console, because that would not just be repetitive, it’d be overwhelming at times.

That’s why they took the “bones” of the mobile game spinoff and upgraded it, refined it, and added a lot to it:

“First of all, in terms of the overall gameplay, we’ve designed it so that even for players who have already completed Conquerors of the Continent, about half of the experience will be new. Systems like town building and select abilities are completely new, and side quests, stories with each companion, and party chat have all been written specifically for this game.”

That’s not to say that the entire story has been rewritten, as it wasn’t. But, according to the producer, about 30-40% of it is new, and that’s a sizeable chunk when you think about it.

For a quicker summation of the rest of the interview, and what you can expect from Octopath Traveler 0, here’s a synopsis:

Octopath Traveler 0 details from Producer Suzuki:- Main story can take 100 hours- 30-40% of the story is new vs. COTC- Bosses have skills that can be acquired- Backline characters recover HP and SP each turn- Only the main character can change jobswww.famitsu.com/article/2025…
