Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake Has Officially Gone Gold

Plus, a special video highlights how things have changed...yet stayed the same!

While we may live in an age of video games where developers and publishers are throwing out remakes and remasters like candy to see what sells, there are some that rise above the others to showcase true quality, and why we need to treat certain historic titles with respect. Last year, Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake came out, and it was an incredible title from top to bottom. In fact, we gave it a 5/5 in our review! It was also a massive sales hit, which makes the Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake highly anticipated on many fronts.

The games are a combo deal, and they visually overhaul the classic RPGs while maintaining all that was within them beforehand. Today, two months ahead of their release on consoles and PC, it was announced by Square Enix that Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake has gone gold!

Square Enix announced Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake has gone gold. This game has regularly topped Famitsu’s ‘Most Wanted’ chart. It’s going to be a massive holiday seller in Japan, especially for Switch.

As if that wasn’t enough for fans, Square Enix also dropped a special comparison video showcasing the original entry in its NES form to how it looks in the HD-2D remake. The layout of the game is the same, but the visuals make it much more compelling:

Square Enix released a comparison of Dragon Quest I on the NES to the HD-2D Remake. Not much (besides visuals) has changed in almost 40 years!

If this duo of titles has the same amount of success as the third entry in the trilogy did last year, Square Enix is in for a good holiday season.
