I’ll be the first to tell you that review scores aren’t something to be taken as “gospel.” My own reviews on this site have sometimes been “contrarian” to what other people have said or felt, which is fine. However, in gaming, it’s always good to see that a large collective of people have the same general vibe about a video game. That goes double when that title is a hyped one like Donkey Kong Bananza! Gamers have been wanting to get their hands on it for a while, and on Metacritic, we know that critics are giving it lots of praise.
Currently, the game has a 90 score across 81 reviews. That’s very impressive, and automatically puts it as one of the best-reviewed games of 2025! Not just that, it has 12 perfect scores, including from sites like IGN and The Washington Post! Yes, that paper reviews video games.
Overall, thoughts on the game praise the looks, the destructible environments, the way Donkey Kong looks and acts, and so on. The Nintendo Switch 2 apparently handles it great, and many were eager to dive back in to find all the secrets and hidden stuff that they missed the first time out.
