Square Enix is one of many teams that have had to “rethink things” over the last few years due to bad decisions, low sales, and ballooning game development costs. As such, they “restructured” the company so that it would be more multi-platform in nature and focus. We’ve already seen multiple titles from them go to other consoles, including Final Fantasy 16 getting an Xbox Series X/S port recently. However, a recent quote makes it seem like the Nintendo Switch 2 isn’t that far off, either!
This comes from a translation of two of the main men behind the franchise, including Yoshi-P! Check it out below:
Yoshi-P hinted that Final Fantasy XVI is coming to Nintendo Switch 2!
Yoshi-P: “Now all that’s left is Nintendo."
Maehiro: "We want to do our best.”

If this were to happen, it’ll be interesting to see not only how Final Fantasy 16 looks/plays on the Nintendo Switch 2, but how well it sells. While not the sole reason, it IS fair to say that the game not meeting Square’s expectations sales-wise helped with its “restructuring.” So, even with it unlikely being able to sell millions on the Switch 2, it could still do rather well on the system, especially since the Nintendo Switch had a plethora of RPG titles, including many Square Enix titles, and several sold rather well there, including the original Octopath Traveler.
It’s also important to remember that the Final Fantasy VII Remake saga is coming to the Switch 2, with the first title in the set already being announced for it. Thus, it’s not a stretch that this game would end up on it, too.
