Black Myth: Wukong Finally Coming to Xbox Series X|S This August

By Keith MitchellJune 6, 2025

Nearly a year after its release on PlayStation 5 and PC, Black Myth: Wukong is finally confirmed for the Xbox Series X|S. While the game has been surrounded by controversy regarding why it didn’t launch on Xbox alongside the PS5 and PC versions, it’s still good to see the game is finally making its way to the platform. Ironically, the game will be released on August 20, 2025, a year after the game was released for PS5 and PC.

As for why it took so long for the game to land on Xbox Series X|S, this was surrounded in controversy, with everything from exclusivity deals to performance issues. To this, Game Science has officially revealed that the team needed more time to ensure the game ran smoothly on the platform.

Q: Why did it take so long to bring the game to Xbox, and what can I expect now?

A: Bringing Black Myth: Wukong to Xbox Series X|S—and ensuring the experience met our internal quality standards—was no easy feat. Fortunately, we were able to complete this challenging task smoothly within the first year of the game’s official release.

Which makes sense since Microsoft enforces a parity clause that requires any game released on Xbox Series X to also run on the Xbox Series S. If a game works good on the Series X, it can’t be released unless it also runs decently on the Series S, and this has caused lots of frustration amongst the development community. Developers have voiced their frustrations about getting their games to run on the Series S at the same level of graphical fidelity as on the Series X.

Regardless, it’s great to finally have one of the better action RPG experiences making its way to Xbox. It’s about damned time.
