Nintendo Switch 2 Backward Compatibility List Updated

You'll be able to play plenty of OG Switch games on the new system. Trust us.

Nintendo Switch 2

There was a time in gaming when backward compatibility was standard. Nintendo was famous for it with both its consoles and its handhelds for a good period. Before the Nintendo Switch 2 was fully revealed, the company’s president made it clear that the system would be able to play more of the original Switch’s titles, especially all of its exclusives. However, they were also open and honest about testing the wide amount of games for the system to see what would work and what might need patches to fix issues.

On its website, Nintendo revealed that it’s officially tested 75% of the Switch’s roster, and about 170 of those 15,000 games have some “issues” of some kind when starting up on the Nintendo Switch 2. That’s a rather low amount overall. In fact, it’s just above 1% of games. Nintendo went further by listing games that either wouldn’t work on the system, will be patched later, or would require you to use the OG Joy-Cons to play them.

Either way, the vast majority of games work on the upcoming platform, and those that don’t are likely ones you won’t consider playing on the Switch 2 for one reason or another.
