Can the ROG Ally X Handle Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves?

Plays better than we expected
By Keith MitchellApril 21, 2025

SNK’s latest fighter, Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, is now out for those who pre-ordered the game. As such, I wondered if you could play the game on the go, using either the Steam Deck or ROG Ally X. But since my Son stole my Steam Deck, I’ve been playing Fatal Fury: City of Wolves away from my PC and on the ROG Ally X, and it handles the game like a champ.

I shouldn’t be surprised, given that this mighty handheld does a great job of running 2D games, especially fighting games. I just didn’t expect it to handle as well as it does. Kudos to SNK for some magical optimization, for sure.

Check out how well the ROG AllyX handles Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves in the video below. I put the settings I used under the video.

For those wondering about the settings, you can refer to these. It keeps the game running decently, without sacrificing too much visual quality

  • Preset Settings: Medium
  • V-Sync: On (Or off, your preference)
  • Dynamic Resolution: Off (On helps a bit but not much)
  • Bloom: Low
  • Depth of Field: Off
  • Anisotropic Filter: X2
  • Anti-Aliasing: TAA (FXAA runs better)
  • Anti-Aliasing Quality: Medium
  • Diffusion: Of
  • Motion Blur: Off
  • Shadows: Of
  • Mesh Quality: Medium
  • Texture Quality: Medium
  • Effect Quality: Low
  • Lighting Effects: Off
  • SSR: Low

Be sure to check out our review of Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, where we let you know that this is one of our favorite fighting games in quite some time.
