Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Showcases Thrilling Combat Gameplay and New Difficulty Mode Updates

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

Many of us here at The Outerhaven can’t stop talking about the upcoming RPG, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, set to release in just two months. To make the wait even harder, French developer Sandfall Interactive has dropped new gameplay footage focusing purely on combat. And don’t worry—there are no story spoilers here, just action-packed battles.

The gameplay showcases what makes Clair Obscur stand out: its ‘Reactive Turn-Based RPG’ mechanics. Instead of the typical turn-based formula, combat involves active elements like timed button presses, dodging, and parrying—features usually seen in action games. This fresh approach adds intensity and strategy to every encounter.

It’s also been revealed that the game will include three difficulty modes: Story Mode for narrative-focused players, Expeditioner Mode for a balanced challenge, and Expert Mode for those craving brutal difficulty with increased enemy damage.

It also feels that if you want to get the most out of the game, you’ll need to be paying full attention instead of just hitting a button and then waiting for your turn again.

Exciting, right? And can you believe this is Sandfall Interactive’s debut title? With its stunning visuals and innovative gameplay, it’s hard to tell. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 launches on April 24th, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Mark your calendar—this one’s not to be missed.”
