Concord Was in Development for Eight Years

Concord Was in Development for Eight Years

Sony’s latest hero shooter, Concord, has finally hit the market after a lengthy eight-year development period. The game, developed by Sony-owned Firewalk Studios, is now available for early access on PlayStation 5 and PC, with its full release scheduled for August 23.

Jon Weisnewski, the lead character designer at Firewalk Studios, took to social media to celebrate the launch. “The game has been in development for around eight years, and I’ve been there for almost five of them,” Weisnewski shared in a tweet. He expressed the significance of the day, noting how rare and special launch days are in the gaming industry.

Concord is a 5v5 first-person shooter, which aligns with Sony’s strategy of releasing major titles simultaneously on both PS5 and PC, a move previously seen with the successful Helldivers 2. However, despite the excitement surrounding its release, early signs suggest that Concord may face challenges, particularly on the PC platform, where pre-launch betas have shown low player engagement.

The game’s lengthy development period coincides with the rise of the hero shooter genre, notably popularized by Blizzard’s Overwatch in 2016.

While Concord enters a crowded market, Firewalk Studios is committed to the game’s future. “We’re strapped in and ready to push it for years to come,” Weisnewski assured fans.
