Bethesda Game Studios’ space adventure title Starfield has opened its gates, and players are already joining the ships in numbers. When Starfield starts, players are required to create their characters where they need to choose the most suitable Backgrounds and Traits for them. And the players’ playstyle majorly depends on these Backgrounds and Traits. In this article, we’ll dive deep into the Starfield Backgrounds and also recommend the top 5 backgrounds the players can go with for a decent headstart.

It is very important to choose the right background from the start to get the most out of the game. Each background offers three starting skills that are divided into levels. While the skills in the Backgrounds can be unlocked later on, but initial ones help a lot in the exploration part.

Complete List of Starfield Backgrounds

Currently, there are 20 Backgrounds available for the players to choose from. The skills are mixed and matched under different background names.

  • Beast Hunter
  • Bouncer
  • Bounty Hunter
  • Chef
  • Combat Medic
  • Cyber Runner
  • Diplomat
  • Explorer
  • Gangster
  • Homesteader
  • Industrialist
  • Long Hauler
  • Pilgrim
  • Professor
  • Ronin
  • Sculptor
  • Soldier
  • Space Scoundrel
  • Xenoboilogist
  • File Not Found

It does not matter which background a player chooses. The required skills can be unlocked later on in the game with skill points.

Which five Starfield backgrounds we recommend

Players may get confused with the 20 options that are presented to them. Although the background choice majorly depends on the playstyle, here we’ll recommend the possible best five. The recommendations below are given in alphabetical order.

Bounty Hunter

For players who like hustling, a Bounty Hunter background can be a very interesting choice. The first skill, Piloting, increases maneuverability and helps in flying different types of ships. The second skill Targeting Control Systems, helps significantly in space fights. The final skill Booster Pack Training helps in unlocking the equipped backpack booster.

Chef

Chef is a good choice for players who like balanced gameplay. This background comes with Gastronomy which increases cooking options, Deuling, which increases attack and defense with melee weapons, and Scavanging, which allows the players to loot more.

Cyber Runner

The next Background on the list is the Cyber Runner. The players who like more tactical and stealth gameplay, this is the background for them. The first skill, Stealth, makes the players better at sneaking and surprise attacks. The second skill, Security, is very useful for unlocking various chests and hacking high-tier locks. The third skill, Theft, allows the players the ability to pickpocket.

Diplomat

The universe of Starfield is huge. And to explore all the various parts, Diplomat’s skills are going to be very useful, particularly for the players who like to play diplomatically. The first skill Proposition helps in convincing people during conversations. The second skill, Commerce, is very useful for buying and selling with more value. The last skill, Wellness, gives the players more HP.

Homesteader

Homesteader can be a very interesting choice who likes the exploration part of Starfield. This Background gives the players necessary skills that focus on exploration, scavenging, and discoverability. The first skill Geology gives the players a higher chance to mine better and higher-tier resources. The second skill, surveying, helps in scanning a larger area to discover more resources. The last skill, Weight Lifting, gives the players the option to increase their capacity.

Once again, no Starfield Background is best for everyone. It totally depends on how someone wants to play the game. But we hope that this Starfields Backgrounds guide and the recommendations helped you to understand which one you should go for.
