Masahiro Sakurai Breaks Down Origins Of Super Smash Bros Brawl!

By Todd BlackMay 19, 2023
Super Smash Bros Brawl

Have you been enjoying the “Creating Games” series that Masahiro Sakurai has been developing? With over 100 videos under his belt, Daddy Sakurai has proven that he knows how to nicely explain the game development process, while also providing insight into his own titles he’s produced or created. In his latest video, he dedicated a good amount of time to Super Smash Bros Brawl, the third entry in the fighting game series. Yes, it’s a FIGHTING GAME! Get over it. But what Sakurai revealed within the video is not to be gotten over lightly.

For example, he revealed that Super Smash Bros Brawl was almost a straight-up port of Melee and that Nintendo would’ve taken that route had Sakurai turned down the offer to make it. Another thing he noted was that he’s not a fan of online play for the franchise. Why? Because he feels it diminishes the feeling of playing with friends and that you often “lose confidence” when you battle online players who are sometimes significantly better than you.

He also reconfirmed that the title was slower than its predecessor because of the Wii’s desire to appeal to casual audiences, and it made the title more inviting to new players. For all the details, including how Subspace Emissary came to be, watch the video below!
