New Patch for The Callisto Protocol Improves PC Performance

Striking Distance Studios has released yet another update for The Callisto Protocol on PC that further optimizes the performance of the platform. The developer has pledged that more updates are on the way to address the Pipeline State Object caching of the Unreal Engine 4 game engine.

To their credit, I did observe better performance on the PC version after firing up the game. I hadn’t given the game much play time due to the terrible performance thanks to shader complication challenges and figured I’d give SDS some time to patch up the Unreal Engine woes. I actually thought about just giving up on the PC version.

We’re listening to your feedback and working hard to further optimize PC performance. Today we released a new PC update that improves PSO caching and further reduces any stuttering issues. Additional PC and console optimizations are in the works now. Stay tuned.

Ever since The Callisto Protocol had been released, it hasn’t been smooth sailing. While the PlayStation 5 version was almost perfect in terms of performance, the Xbox Series X|S, and PC versions were full frame rate dips, missing textures and shadows, and, unfortunately, stuttering.

The past few days, Striking Distances Studio has devoted itself to fixing those issues, and has already released one patch last week. The first patch did address several issues, and today’s update has optimized the port even further. With SDS promising yet one more update for both the PC and console versions, I’m looking forward to finally sitting down and playing the sci-fi horror survival title I’ve been looking forward to playing for the past few months.

I’m not going to go on a rant that the game shouldn’t have been released in this state, and how the developer should have been transparent regarding issues with the game, which included delaying getting review copies into the hands of reviewers. Nope.

The Callisto Protocol is currently available for the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
