G4 Is No More, Again

By Todd BlackOctober 16, 2022
G4

The original G4 was a haven for geeks and nerds who felt they didn’t have anyone “representing them” in their spaces. Gaming was big, but it still hadn’t breached the TV world like some would’ve thought. Comic fans had a few good movies, but it was hardly the norm just yet. The network brought a great group of hosts and personalities together to make something great. But then, in 2012, it was gone. Fans wanted and begged for a return, and we got it in 2021! It was a full relaunch with classic shows like Attack of the Show and X-Play returning with new shows being added to the mix. Similarly, familiar faces and new blood was brought in to root the show in great personnel.

Fans old and new watched, and speaking personally here, I loved it. It was everything I remembered, but with new flair. I enjoyed watching AOTS, the X-Play reviews, chilling with Vibe Check, and more. I loved it, and I’m not afraid to say I wanted to work for G4. Sadly, I won’t get my chance, nor will anyone else. Because parent company Comcast has pulled the plug:

Needless to say, the reactions from the staff and fans was loud and sad. But also shocking, as one now former host noted that he was in negotiations for a new contract with the channel! Plus, there were no indications last week on ANY of their shows that this was ending. This was a quick cut of the cord and a harmful and deep cut.

So what can us fans do? Honor them. Thank them for all their work. Kevin Pereira, Fiona Nova, Adam Sessler, Gina Darling, Goldenboy, Frosk, Jirard the Completionist, Vanessa Guerrero, Emily Rose, Kassem G, Austin Creed and on the list goes. If you see them on Twitter, thank them for helping bring G4 back, even for only a year. Tell them we won’t forget them, and tell them…we won’t stop playing.
