PAX AUS 2021 has been canceled thanks to that damn virus

By Karl SmartAugust 9, 2021

First, it was 2020, now it’s 2021. More and more, it’s getting harder for events to happen for any community, especially in Australia. PAX AUS has announced that it has been forced to postpone its 2021 event to 2022… If that’ll happen. You can read the announcement that was made through PAX Australia’s official Facebook and Twitter pages this morning below:

This comes as the latest of a long line of blows to the Australian economy, with all other events like Oz Comic-Con, Supanova, and more losing out 2 years in a row because of an outbreak of that COVID-19 or Delta strain of that damn virus. The Australian Government, especially my home state of Victoria, go into full Stage 4 lockdown as soon as 6 to 10 cases are found in the community and will not release restrictions till there are 14 “zero case days” in a row, then we slowly (aka once every two weeks) allow more thing to open and happen. Unfortunately, Victoria is in its 6th lockdown since the pandemic began, with no end in sight for this lockdown to end.

On a personal note, this was the last thing I had planned with my year. This current lockdown has cost me a lot: I lost my job, I had to cancel my bucks night and the wedding, and now PAX Aus is no longer happening. I didn’t even have anything planned for my own damn birthday in September! This virus and the way my country has reacted to it have really worn me down. I now have no hope for anything happy to happen for a long time to come.

The Outerhaven would like to express its compassion and sorrow at the loss of yet another event. We hope everyone at the Reedpop team for Australia, all the Australian indie developers, and all the PR companies and publishers in Australia all the best in recovering from this latest setback and that with some luck, 2022 will see us all back playing video games together.
