Nintendo Direct E3 2021 Recap

By Todd BlackJune 15, 2021
Nintendo Direct E3 2021

After a somewhat lackluster E3 2021 so far by the various other companies, it was up to Nintendo with their classic Nintendo Direct to come and save the day! But did they?

Here’s a recap of the entire show!

The show started out in expected fashion by revealing the next Super Smash Bros Ultimate fighter…in Kazuya Mishima from Tekken! No one called that! A special presentation is planned later in June by Sakurai for him.

Next was a reveal of some surprising 3rd party support via Life Is Strange Remastered and True Colors coming to Switch as well as the newly announced Guardians of the Galaxy. They even had a reveal of a Super Monkey Ball 20th Anniversary special game!

The first true 1st party game revealed was Mario Party Superstars! A collection of some of the most beloved Mario Party mini-games and boards are back, remastered, and now, there will be online play! It’s coming this October, here’s the trailer!

As for one of the biggest surprises of the whole Nintendo Direct…we’re getting a new Metroid game!!!! Yep, the first new 2D Metroid game in a LONG time is coming via Metroid Dread. In this new Metroid game, Samus will be exploring a new place and is being constantly hunted by rogue robots known as E.M.M.Is. The game is going to be coming out this year on October 8th! No word on Metroid Prime 4 news as of yet, but this will keep hope alive that Metroid will be living on in the meantime!

Other 3rd party games were announced for Switch including Dragon Ball Kakarot, as well as refreshers on games like Monster Hunters Stories 2 Wings of Ruin.

But the 1st party surprises were done yet, as WarioWare is coming via WarioWare Get It Together! It’ll feature new microgames, new twists on the fun gameplay, and, being able to play it alongside another player! The title will arrive on September 10th.

Back to the 3rd party, we got a new and deeper look into Shin Megami Tensei V! It revealed how our main character gets into the demon world and how they need to team up with demons in order to fight the eviler ones.

Moving on, there’s a Danganrompa collection coming later this year as well as the return of Fatal Frame via Maiden of the Black Water.

In another major surprise, the first two Advanced Wars titles have been remade from the ground up and are coming to Nintendo Switch this December!

Finally, a set of Zelda news was given. Including a look at the first wave of Expansion Pass gameplay and feats for Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity.

And…Breath of the Wild 2! We’re going to the skies as a new evil has ripped parts of Hyrule from the ground and we get a new look at how Link and even Zelda factor into everything. Eiji Aonuma confirms that they’re planning to release it in 2022!

So, there’s the overall of all that happened at the Nintendo Direct! If you want to watch it in full, check it out below!
