I don’t think anyone will be surprised to hear that Starz has cancelled their adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s American Gods. The show has had a difficult history, with show runners and actors leaving the show, causing it to twist and bend plot lines.
“American Gods will not return for a fourth season. Everyone at Starz is grateful to the dedicated cast and crew, and our partners at Fremantle who brought author and executive producer Neil Gaiman’s ever-relevant story to life that speaks to the cultural climate of our country,” Starz said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter.
However, this may not be the last we see of the show itself. According to Deadline, a TV movie or special event wrap-up is in talks. Makes sense, given that the show ended on March 21 at a pivotal point in the novel.
The problems with American Gods started back after its first season, when showrunners Bryan Fuller and Michael Green left, taking Gillian Anderson and Kristin Chenoweth. Then, during the production of Season 2 under the helm of Jesse Alexander with help from Gaiman himself, there was a lot of drama as well. That ended up costing them Orlando Jones, Mousa Kraish and Pablo Schreiber for Season 3.
