Upcoming Sekiro update will add new game modes and cosmetics; fight previous bosses all over again

By Keith MitchellJuly 29, 2020

I’ve been debating on diving back into Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, but now it seems that Fromsoftware is making that decision for me. Earlier today, the company announced that they’re working on a free update for Sekiro, that will be released on October 29th, 2020. This update will add two new game modes and some cosmetics for the One-Armed Wolf.

The new Reflections of Strength mode, allows you to revisit previously defeated bosses via the Sculptor’s Idols that are scattered throughout the world. This has been something that several fans of the game, including myself, have been asking for. While Gauntlets of Strength look to be single -life challenges that will put your skills to the test. Should you die during one of these challenges, you’ll have to start all over again.

Originally in Sekiro, you didn’t have any way to change the way your in-game character looked, outside of using PC mods. With this new update, that will change with the addition of Wolf’s outfits. Simply stopping by any Sculptor’s Idol will let you change into three new costumes, but there’s a catch. You’ll have to beat the Gauntlets of Strength challenge to unlock two of the costumes, the other by beating the game. Meaning most of us should have one ready for us when this update arrives. These new looks are purely cosmetic, they don’t do anything extra for you.

Lastly, there’s a new system called Remnants, that will let players record up to 30 seconds of gameplay of just about anything. How to defeat a boss or some other feat of strength that can be uploaded for everyone else to watch. Which could be useful as a learning tool or just showing off. Of course, you’ll be rewarded for your effort. If anyone watches your remnant, you’ll receive consumable items or get your health back for free.

It’s nice to see that Fromsoftware is still providing updates for Sekiro, and have added the boss rush-lite more. Especially since the studio is currently working on Elden Ring, and many had figured they gave up on the title. Still, there’s one piece that everyone is still waiting on and that’s the eventual DLC that was teased in the good ending.

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC and soon to be on Google Stadia.
