Netflix’s ‘Dracula’ Teaser is Gorey, Gritty, and Gripping

By Sara Roncero-MenendezDecember 14, 2019

When it was announced that the team behind the BBC hit Sherlock, Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss, would adapt Bram Stoker’s Dracula, fans were hopeful it would be another ground-breaking series. Well, now the first teaser is out, and I do have to admit, it certainly stands out.

As we can see, Claes Bang plays Dracula, who is out consuming blood and killing victims. And while Dracula is definitely sexually-charged, the rest of the trailer isn’t. Broken nails, gruesome wounds, dark screams in the night — this looks and sounds like a real horror series.

In the cast, we also have John Heffernan as Jonathan Harker, Dolly Wells as Sister Agatha, Joanna Scanlan as Mother Superior, and Morfydd Clark as Mina Harker, among others. The show is set to follow Dracula from his origins in Eastern Europe, through the events of the novel, and then beyond. It looks like Season 1 will mainly focus on what happens in the book, but they may venture outwards in later installments.

Like Sherlock, the season will have three episodes, likely around 90 minutes each. We know the episode titles as well; they are, respectively, “The Rules of the Beast”, “Blood Vessel”, and “The Dark Compass.”

Dracula premieres on Netflix on January 4, 2020.

A reporter by trade, Sara is a lover of horror, sci-fi, and all things pop culture. From indies to classics to even the strangest schlock, all movies and TV shows are fair game. She believes Batman is the most fascinating superhero, and that Silent Hill is one of the best horror franchises ever made (as long as you don't count the movies). Fun Fact: The only movie Sara will not rewatch is The Room -- once was more than enough.
