Granzella’s R-Type Final 2 Kickstarter Campaign Is Super Successful

Yes, this is really happening

A while back, we reported that IREM has licensed out the R-Type license to Granzella. Which happens to be a company made up of former IREM employees. As such, they’d be the perfect team to work on an R-Type title. Going into action, Granzella announced plans to launch a Kickstarter for the funding R-Type Final 2. Which went live last week, with one exception. It was only a 7-day campaign, unlike a month like most Kickstarter campaigns are.

Many thought that this Kickstarter couldn’t possibly hit its goal. $400,000 in just 7 days seemed like a pretty tall order. However, not only did Granzella hit their asking goal of $400,000 USD, but they’ve sailed past it. Between the Kickstarter and Paypal payments, the team managed to pull in $930,000 USD in total. Which is 224% of the original goal.

Granzera Inc.(Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture) is pleased to announce that the Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign for “R-Type Final 2” production project has successfully ended. R-Type Final 2 has been funded with approximately USD930,000 (a combined total of the amount raised on Kickstarter and PayPal). We have reached 224% of the initial funding goal (about USD 410,000).
It has only been made possible thanks to all of your amazing support and helps with spreading the word throughout the campaign. We genuinely appreciate everything. Also, we have received so many encouraging messages from R-Type fans from all over the world. We would like to take this opportunity to express our heartfelt thanks. The development of R-Type Final 2 kicks into gear from now on. We will continue to do our best in delivering the best R-Type ever. We will keep you updated on the production progress on a regular basis on the R-Type Final 2 Official Website, as well as our Kickstarter campaign webpage.

We ask for your continued support for R-Type Final 2 and Granzella.

It just goes to show that the SHMUP genre is far from dead and that that fans from all over the globe really want a new R-Type title.

They’ve also managed to hit 7 of the 12 stretch goals as well. Meaning when the game is released, it will support cross-region and cross-platform leaderboards. As well as having several older R-Type stages recreated in the game.

A huge congrats are definitely in order for Granzella. They’ll be starting development on the title soon, and If you helped Kickstart the game, you’ll be receiving updates as it comes along.

R-Type Final 2 is scheduled for release on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC by the end of 2020.
