‘Lucifer’ Gets Renewed at Netflix for its Final Season

By Sara Roncero-MenendezJune 9, 2019

Fans were overjoyed to hear that Netflix had saved the sinfully good Fox show Lucifer from cancellation hell. They just released the fourth season, which received a lot of critical praise. But all good things must come to an end — even though the show has been renewed for a fifth season at Netflix, it will be the show’s last.

For those of you who haven’t seen the show, it follow Lucifer Morningstar, a.k.a Satan, who has grown bored ruling over Hell. So, being lord of chaos, he abandons the thrown and moves to Los Angeles and opens a nightclub. And, if that weren’t enough, he becomes a consultant for the LAPD and ends up falling for Detective Chloe Decker, who isn’t effected by his demonic powers.

The show had been cancelled after its third season but Netflix rushed in to buy up the property and produce the next season.

“We are so incredibly thankful to Netflix for resurrecting our show last season, and now letting us finish the story of Lucifer on our terms,” showrunners Joe Henderson and Ildy Modrovich said in a statement. “Most importantly, we want to thank the fans for their incredible passion and support. The best is yet to come!”

Lucifer isn’t the only beloved show getting one last season to send off fans. NBC’s The Good Place will be getting one last season on the network before it ends.

No word as to when Lucifer Season 5 is set to make its way to Netflix, but it’s likely to be sometime in 2020.

A reporter by trade, Sara is a lover of horror, sci-fi, and all things pop culture. From indies to classics to even the strangest schlock, all movies and TV shows are fair game. She believes Batman is the most fascinating superhero, and that Silent Hill is one of the best horror franchises ever made (as long as you don't count the movies). Fun Fact: The only movie Sara will not rewatch is The Room -- once was more than enough.
