Discord’s Online Store Is Now Live, New Nitro Plans Outlined

By Keith MitchellOctober 16, 2018
Discords new digital storefront is online

Well, it took a while but Discord’s new digital storefront is now live. In beta for many months, now gamers can head on over to https://discordapp.com/store to see the store in action. Of course, this also means that several titles such as Sinner: Sacrifice for Redemption and At Sundown, are now up in the store. If you want to check out those titles on PC, you’ll have to snag them on Discord’s store.

Thankfully, you don’t need to have a paid Nitro subscription to access the store as it was previously thought.

An interesting function of the new store is Discord’s Universal Library. Essentially a game launcher, this will scan your PC for existing titles and populate them into this library. Then you’ll be able to launch any of those games via Discord. It doesn’t matter if it requires another launcher, such as Steam, GOG, Origin or any other of the countless launchers available on the PC. Discord will launch the proper launcher and then get the game up and running.

At least that’s what they say. I haven’t tried it myself, but I will soon.

Discord Nitro Store

In addition to the store going online, Discord has updated their Nitro subscriptions. Yes, I said subscriptions. The previous $5 Nitro sub has been upgraded. Now it includes a huge selection of games priced over $1000 – as such, the subscription price is being raised to $9.99 a month. It will still provide the same benefits as before, just with games as well. If that’s not something you want, not to worry. As the original Nitro lives on as Nitro Classic and is priced at the original price of $4.99 a month.

As a thank you, Discord is providing anyone who was already Nitro member prior to Oct 10, 2018, access to their entire catalog of games – For free.  Free for two years, access to their expanding library. That doesn’t mean you cancel after getting access, though. Should that happen, you lose that perk. So don’t go doing that.

For more info on the storefront and the new Nitro plans, head over to Discord’s blog.
