Disney’s Next Live-Action Remake: ‘Lilo & Stitch’

By Sara Roncero-MenendezOctober 3, 2018

If you clicked on this headline thinking “No way, there’s no way this is real,” then believe me, reader, I felt the exact same way. But it looks like we’re both wrong, because according to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney’s next live-action remake is going to be of the cult classic Lilo & Stitch.

Nothing has been greenlit yet, but the order has been given, and it’s rare for such a big project to be announced then cancelled. Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich will produce the film once they are done with the Aladdin live-action film, and newcomer Mike Van Waes to write the script. Of course, there’s no news on a director or cast yet, but it is interesting to see Disney pulling away from its Golden and Renaissance periods in order to connect with a very popular franchise in its pantheon.

For those who have never seen the film, go watch it now. I’ll wait. But also, Lilo & Stitch about an alien experiment who escapes to Earth and is found by a lonely little girl named Lilo. She gives him the name Stitch and she sets about trying to make him a good dog, while dealing with the grief of losing her parents and her sister desperately trying to keep them afloat. Also the FBI and alien governments get involved, making for a riotous and emotional ride.

We’ll keep you updated as we learn more about this film.

A reporter by trade, Sara is a lover of horror, sci-fi, and all things pop culture. From indies to classics to even the strangest schlock, all movies and TV shows are fair game. She believes Batman is the most fascinating superhero, and that Silent Hill is one of the best horror franchises ever made (as long as you don't count the movies). Fun Fact: The only movie Sara will not rewatch is The Room -- once was more than enough.
