Greg Nicotero Joins ‘Spawn’ Reboot

By Charlie ShawAugust 30, 2018

From flesh-eating zombies to demon armies from hell, legendary make-up effects artist Greg Nicotero will be keeping himself busy with the upcoming Spawn reboot.

According to an exclusive from Comicbook.com, Greg Nicotero and his group, KNB EFX Group, will provide visual effects for the upcoming film. Due to the film’s low budget, writer and director of the Spawn reboot, Todd McFarlane – who is also the creator of the franchise – wants to focus on practical effects as opposed to using big budget CGI.

Here’s what Todd McFarlane said to Comicbook.com about including Nicotero on the project:

“When I conceived of the story to start with, I never really thought of it as big special effects extravaganza because I knew we weren’t going to have the budget for it. So I knew I was going to rely heavily on practical makeup and costuming, and one of the places that kept popping up was my good pal Greg Nicotero on his KNB Group. And he’s obviously done a tremendous amount of work on dozens and dozens of movies. The sort of serendipitous part of it is that Greg was there at the beginning 20 years ago for the original Spawn movie.”

Greg Nicotero has a lengthy career as a special make-up effects artist. He’s provided some of the most grotesque looking creatures in films such as Day of the Dead, Evil Dead II, Wes Craven’s New Nightmare, From Dusk till Dawn, and plenty of other films. He’s recently notable for working on the hit AMC series The Walking Dead, and has even served as director for numerous episodes of the show.

The Spawn Reboot is being produced by Blumhouse Productions and will star Jamie Foxx as Al Simmons (aka Spawn) and Jeremy Renner as “Twitch” Williams, a brainy detective with some serious marksman skills.
