New ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’ Trailer Promises High-Webbing Adventure

By Sara Roncero-MenendezJune 6, 2018

Marvel may be winning the live-action movie game, but DC has a stronger animation game. However, Marvel doesn’t seem content to let them have that distinction either and is looking to branch out to animation aimed at a broader audience with their new release, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

This trailer shows us Miles Morales first taking on the role of Spider-Man with a very disheveled Peter Parker as his mentor. We see Morales fight baddies while still trying to maintain a life at home. The script was written by Phil Lord (of The Lego Movie fame) and will feature Spider-Gwen, Kingpin, and Prowler, even though we don’t get to see them yet.

Listen, I’m going to be honest here, when I saw the original teaser, I thought it was nice but nothing groundbreaking. However, this new trailer has me hyped. The action, the comedy, the way Morales shines through just grabs your attention and never let go. The fluidity of the movement alone is so beautiful that it makes my heart swell.

It’s surprising to see such cutting edge animation from Sony Pictures Animation, who at best gave us Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and Hotel Transylvania, and at worst gave us The Emoji Movie. It combines the look and feel of live-action with a traditional comic book aesthetic backed up with some wicked next-gen graphics. It’s clear this is going to be praised for its look, but will it have the story and characters to really bring the movie together?

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse comes out in theaters in December 14, 2018.

A reporter by trade, Sara is a lover of horror, sci-fi, and all things pop culture. From indies to classics to even the strangest schlock, all movies and TV shows are fair game. She believes Batman is the most fascinating superhero, and that Silent Hill is one of the best horror franchises ever made (as long as you don't count the movies). Fun Fact: The only movie Sara will not rewatch is The Room -- once was more than enough.
