Sam Raimi Returns to the Big Screen with Alexandre Aja in ‘Crawl’

By Sara Roncero-MenendezMay 6, 2018

After the big box office success of A Quiet Place, it looks like Paramount is going to try and making low-budget horror their latest train. Horror legend Sam Raimi is now free to pursue projects, given that Starz canceled his show Ash vs. The Evil Dead. It makes for a perfect storm, pun absolutely intended.

Raimi is producing Crawl, a horror movie that takes place during a category-5 hurricane. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Crawl is about a young woman who is trying to save her father while battling nature, in more ways than one. The film will be directed Alexandre Aja, known for his work on the remake of The Hills Have Eyes and Horns. The current script was also written Aja, based on a spec script by Shawn and Michael Rasmussen.

A Quiet Place earned over $148.5 million domestically, drawing in quite a profit on its $17 million budget. Paramount other micro-budget horror hit, Paranormal Activity, only further proves that you don’t need to spend big bucks to make bank. Crawl will also be working on a small budget, but with a horror icon like Sam Raimi at the helm, a little will go a long way. After all, the first The Evil Dead movie was made for un $400,000 and made nearly $3 million.

No news as to when Crawl will make its way to theaters, and no actors have been cast yet. Stay tuned to The Outerhaven for more information on this project.

A reporter by trade, Sara is a lover of horror, sci-fi, and all things pop culture. From indies to classics to even the strangest schlock, all movies and TV shows are fair game. She believes Batman is the most fascinating superhero, and that Silent Hill is one of the best horror franchises ever made (as long as you don't count the movies). Fun Fact: The only movie Sara will not rewatch is The Room -- once was more than enough.
