Now The Nintendo Switch Has Capcom’s Attention

By Keith MitchellJuly 28, 2017

Not too long ago, Capcom made a pretty bold statement regarding the Nintendo Switch. In order for the company to put their “Support” behind the system, their first title for it, Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers, had to do exceptionally well. Which for many, felt like a very unfair task, since the game was simply a port of a 9-year old that. We felt the same way during our review of the title. However, there is a silver lining as Capcom has come away impressed with the 1st quarter figures of USF2: TFC.

Capcom: 450K is 1Q figure for Ultra Street Fighter II, above its expectation. Also "starting to prepare" multiple Switch-version titles.

The game ended up selling over 450,000 copies and has satisfied Capcom’s “test” for the Switch. The reward? Capcom has already stated that they are starting to prepare multiple Switch versions of their upcoming titles. What hasn’t been confirmed is if the Capcom will also work on Switch-exclusive titles in the upcoming future, but we’ll find out later on I suppose.

That said, I’d like to request the Mega Man Collection and Dark Stalkers on the Switch. Make it happen, Capcom!

Still, I didn’t expect Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers to sell as well as it did. Sure, it was a strong game, but a rehash none the less. It definitely seemed like all those new Nintendo Switch owners really wanted Capcom on board and support the platform. Which is a bit weird, especially since it was Capcom that pleaded with Nintendo to increase the ram on the Switch, to 4GB. Which happens to be the amount of memory that system launched with.

Maybe this will be enough to get Capcom to reconsider bringing out Monster Hunter XX on the Switch in North America.
