2XKO Competitive Seasons Shortened From 5 to 3

By Kevin KellyJanuary 16, 2026

Riot Games has released a statement about 2XKO’s changes. 2XKO’s grand plans to ensure that players will stay engaged through the competitive scene had bigger plots to continue the fold. With the new updates inbound, the producers will post Thursday updates as part of their Weekend Warmup program. Challenges, missions, and the like will happen on Thursdays.

Thanks to the PC early release launch last year, with Xbox and PlayStation fighters joining in later this month, there might be some changes to the first batch of seasons to help with catch-ups. This will most likely affect the competitive First Impact run.

We previously said that 2XKO was going to have five seasons in 2026, but as we learned more about how y’all play through Early Access, it makes more sense to do fewer resets through the year for both Ranked and the Battle Pass. So we’re moving to three seasons in 2026, now mostly disconnected from champion releases and the competitive calendar. This won’t change too much overall aside from Ranked resets and new Battle Pass timings.

As for the content, Riot Games will still stick to its plans to boost the roster with new characters. 11 Champions are here now, but it seems as though they’ll be boosting it to 16 by this year’s end. Caitlyn will be coming this month. One of the smallest launch numbers within the tag-team fighting game realm. Hunter X Hunter: Nen X Impact nearly got things done with the same number on launch, with more planned this year, for instance.

We’re still planning on releasing five champions in 2026, starting with Caitlyn, but the second champion of the year will now also fall within Season 1. More info on how to unlock champs via the store and Recruitment Events can be found in the Progression & Personalization article. The 2026 Competitive Series calendar is also unchanged.

Additionally, Riot Games will be assisting with local tournaments and other events that are not officially part of the seasons, especially now that 2XKO is an official game of many majors this year, including the Evo 2026 runs in Japan and Vegas.

We’re investing into FGC locals this year. If you’re an organizer, please fill out this form (password is letsgo) to tell us about your event; we want to know more about your scene.

2XKO will be available on January 20th for Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. The PC version, through Riot Games, is already available.
