Fatal Fury: City of The Wolves to get an animated promo by Masami Obari

By Kevin KellyJanuary 24, 2025
Fatal Fury City of the wolves

Masami Obari is no stranger to the SNK franchise Fatal Fury. In fact, Obari has worked on the 3 part Fatal Fury OVA in the 90s with a passion for the characters and adding some new ones of his own. Especially in the third act where as the Gundam and Bubblegum Crisis creator gave Terry and the Hungry Wolves some original opponents to contend with. Obari will be helming a new Fatal Fury promotional short to commemorate the next title, Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, SNK announced.

And coincidentally, today is Obari-san's birthday!🎂

From the look of things, that fateful day of Geese’s end is not behind Obari nor Terry. The stills depict the conclusion of the final battle with Geese and Terry squaring off. Similar to Terry’s many endings of him trying to save Geese rather than leave the defeat as it is – which is one of the things that the OVA does with the winners and losers quite often. Mark of the Wolves starts off the same way.

As to how far Obari will go this time is still yet to be determined. If history dictates things, Obari will probably focus on this particular part to get players up to speed on the events of the original 7 canon games and answer an important question: “Is Geese Howard coming back to take over Southtown?”. Obari worked on the King of FIghters 15 short animation, also.

The news comes right after the Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves beta was announced (which will be happening next month) and Obari’s birthday, too. This is quite peculiar timing. To be honest, I’d love to see if Geese will get his second coming in the OVA series thanks to this and a potential continuation, but this is probably a good start to get the fire going on Fatal Fury as it is.

As for the game, Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves will be available on PlayStation 4 | 5, Xbox Series X, and Steam, on April 25th.
