PlayStation’s 30th Anniversary Video Reignites Bloodborne Remake Speculation

By Keith MitchellDecember 2, 2024
PlayStation 30th Anniversary - Thank you Bloodborne

It’s been a challenging time for fans of FromSoftware’s and PlayStation’s Soulslike classic, Bloodborne. Rumors of a remake have swirled for years, and now fans are being teased once again by a new PlayStation video celebrating the company’s 30th anniversary. The trailer highlights some of PlayStation’s most iconic games, including Horizon Zero Dawn, Death Stranding, The Last of Us, God of War (2018), Ico, Gran Turismo, Spider-Man, Uncharted, and many others, before closing with Bloodborne, of all titles.

Now here’s what has fans buzzing.

Each featured game was paired with a short phrase tied to its essence. For Bloodborne, the phrase was “It’s About Persistence.” This could be interpreted in two ways: it might refer to the perseverance required to conquer the game’s brutal challenges, or it could hint at the persistence of its fanbase, who have long been vocal about wanting a remaster or remake. The choice to end the trailer with Bloodborne feels significant, sparking fresh rumors that something new related to the game might finally be on the horizon

You can see Bloodborne make its appearance at the 1:52 mark in the trailer below.

Of course, this could be nothing more than a tribute. Fans have been clamoring for a Bloodborne remaster or remake for years, but PlayStation has remained silent on the matter. That said, it’s worth noting that Demon’s Souls—another FromSoftware title—was remade for the PlayStation 5, and PlayStation owns the rights to both IPs.

Update: Just to make sure no one says we said a remake is coming. This video appears to be taken from the original Bloodborne TV commercial.

Still, it’s hard not to wonder why Bloodborne hasn’t received the same treatment. Seeing the game looking polished and cinematic in the anniversary trailer raises the question: why hasn’t PlayStation followed through? After all, the company hasn’t been shy about revisiting its classics, as seen with the Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut, The Last of Us Part I remake, and the upcoming The Last of Us Part II Remastered.

So, what’s the hold-up, PlayStation? Fans are ready and waiting. Also, 30 years? Damn, I’m I feel older now.
