Are you ready for Keanu Reeves to dominate the box office once again? Oh, wait, um, are you ready for the next Sonic movie? That’s good! Because the film comes out on December 20th, and the newest Sonic The Hedgehog 3 Trailer brings both comedy and dark intentions to bare as it lays out the plot and character dynamics within. While the trailer does start out with levity (and a unique Chao Garden reference…), it soon reveals the dark designs of Dr. Gerald Robotnik, his son Ivo, and, of course, Shadow the Hedgehog. Oh, and yes, they did just cut off half the moon in the trailer.
What’s clear here is that film is trying to position things to be about the choices we make in our darkest moments. Sonic (as shown in the first trailer) makes a potentially fatal decision by trusting Eggman, which obviously backfires. Then, with Gerald and Shadow, they’re making decisions based on their grief and loss, and they’ll take it out on all of humanity if they get their way. Will they? You’ll have to watch the movie to find out!
