PAX Australia: Wizards of the Coast brings Magic & Dragons

By Karl SmartOctober 7, 2024
PAX Australia

Wizards of the Coast are proud to showcase their popular tabletop experiences to the thousands of attendees at this year’s PAX Australia convention between 11 and 13 October.

Celebrating over 50 years of Dungeons and Dragons (D&D), and over 30 years of Magic: The Gathering (MTG), Wizards of the Coast has partnered with Let’s Play Games and PAX Together to bring a plethora of activations and learn-to-play opportunities over the PAX weekend.

Wizards of the Coast activity at PAX Australia 2024 will include:

Any tabletop becomes a battlefield with Magic: The Gathering

Across all three days of PAX Australia, players can experience MTG in a range of different formats. Sit down at the MTG booth for casual games of Commander or sign up for one of the official tournaments offered throughout the show! The full schedule for MTG play can be found below.

  • Learn to play: New to MTG? Returning to the game after some time away? Want to increase your playgroup? The MTG booth is the perfect place for you! Swing by at any time over the weekend to get a starter deck and start playing. The knowledgable and friendly staff at the booth will be able to teach you the basics and even walk you through the opening turns of your first game.
  • Sealed: A limited format where players are provided six Play Boosters to build a deck with. Players then test the strength of their deck against other players in three rounds of 1v1 battles. Sealed formats available for PAX Australia 2024 are:
    • Duskmourn: experience the chills and thrills of retro horror in this haunted house-themed set! Bring your opponent’s greatest fears to life as you try to survive the nightmares they have in store for you.
    • Bloomburrow: discover your inner folk hero with the small furry friends of Bloomburrow! Put your best paw forward and battle with adorable critters such as squirrels, otters, mice and more!
    • Chaos: experience MTG at its most chaotic! Players will receive six boosters, all from different sets to create their decks, leading to a wild mish-mash of cards and themes!
  • Commander: A format where players use decks built of 100 unique cards, meaning no double-ups! Each deck has a “Commander” which decides the strategy and colours for the deck. Bring a Commander deck of your own creation or grab a preconstructed deck at the show to play with.

Craft your own story with Dungeons and Dragons

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the world’s most popular tabletop roleplaying game, Wizards of the Coast has two exciting activities for PAX-goers to take part in!

  • Learn-to-play: The best way to play or budding adventurers looking to take their first step into the world of Dungeons & Dragons! Learn the basics of the game with a team of experienced dungeon masters who’ll have you swinging swords and casting spells in no time. Swing by at any point during the show to start rolling dice straight away!
  • Paint and take: Players looking to upgrade their experience with minis and customise their own character should head straight to the paint-and-take section! Unleash your artistic side, whether you’re a veteran mini painter or completely new to the craft. Visit the paint and take area for D&D at any point throughout the show and you’ll be able to walk home with a miniature of your very own!
