Avengers Doomsday Director Claims Film Will Be On Par With Past Projects

In other words...he'll do it himself.

The current state and fate of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is still up for grabs. On the one hand, Spider-Man 4 is coming in 2026, but the Blade film continues to be delayed and is now off the schedule! 2024 hasn’t even been memorable for the MCU on the big-screen, as its only “true release” wasn’t even an MCU film! 2025 will be the big showcase of when things start going down, and 2026 is when things heat up even further via Avengers Doomsday, which will kick off the next two-part Avengers saga featuring the Russo brothers directing them.

In a chat with GamesRadar+, Joe Russo stated that the upcoming film would be on par with what the brothers did for Infinity War and Endgame, and even gave backstory as to how the two were brought in once again:

“We had been working on another project before Marvel approached all of us – so we’re working on another project with Robert – and there was a story that evolved through conversations that we got very excited about. Because it’s always got to be the story. Why would we come back if we didn’t feel like we had a story that had that possibility of being on an equal footing with Infinity War and Endgame unless there’s a kernel there for an idea that’s really explosive?”

The big hook that Marvel Studios and the Russos are throwing out with Avengers Doomsday is the return of Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, a move that’s still divisive within the fanbase. We’ll have to see if “Doom Wins” in the end.
