Experts Explain Why PS5 Outperforms Xbox Series X in Some Games

Recently, Digital Foundry and other tech experts have been exploring why some games perform better on the PS5 compared to the Xbox Series X, despite the latter’s more powerful hardware.

According to their analysis, several factors contribute to this phenomenon. The PS5 boasts a more efficient GPU compiler, lower-level APIs, and higher clock speeds. These elements enable the PS5 to match or even exceed the Xbox Series X’s performance in certain scenarios.

Microsoft’s approach to making the Xbox Series X more aligned with PC architecture facilitates easier cross-development. This strategy has benefits, as it helps game developers work across multiple platforms more efficiently. The Xbox Series X also still excels in some cases, particularly when games leverage its greater compute throughput.

However, the key takeaway is that the PS5’s design choices allow it to punch above its weight class in specific instances.

The experts highlight that both consoles are quite closely matched overall, and the differences in performance don’t drastically impact the user experience. The choice between PS5 and Xbox Series X ultimately depends on the individual preferences and the specific games one prefers to play.
