PlayStation VR 2 Headset Adapter Announced, Disables Most of PSVR2 Features

By Keith MitchellJune 3, 2024

Not too long ago, PlayStation revealed that it was working on a way to get its PlayStation 2 VR headset, or the PSVR 2, to work with the PC. Today, it was revealed that the PSVR2 headset will interface with the PC thanks to the PlayStation VR2 PC adapter, which is both a long name and quite boring as well. Still, it will do what many have asked PlayStation to do for some time now.

Starting on August 7, 2024, the PlayStation VR2 PC adapter will be available for sale at $59.99 on the PlayStation Direct website and at various other retailers. This adapter will let PSVR2 owners play thousands of VR games in the Steam library.

The PlayStation VR2 PC adapter requires similar PC requirements as the Meta Quest 3 but doesn’t include a Displayport cable.

PSVR 2 Minimum PC requirements

  • Operating system: Windows 10 64-bit / Windows 11 64-bit
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-7600 / AMD Ryzen 3 3100 (Zen 2 or later architecture is required)
  • RAM: 8 GB or more
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 or later (Turing or later architecture is required) / NVIDIA RTX series / AMD Radeon RX 5500XT or later / AMD Radeon RX 6500XT or later
  • DisplayPort: DisplayPort 1.4 (must have a standard DisplayPort or Mini DisplayPort output port)
  • USB: Direct connection only
  • Bluetooth: Bluetooth 4.0 or later
However, there are a few frustrations. Since the PSVR2 was designed for the PlayStation 5, many of the features are disabled if you use the headset on the PC. PlayStation has revealed that HDR, headset feedback, eye tracking, adaptive triggers, and haptic feedback will not be available when using the PSVR 2 on the PC.

This means that if you are planning to purchase a PSVR 2 and this adapter, that might not be the best decision. But if you already have a PSVR 2 and want to jump into PC VR gaming, this adapter would be the cheapest way to do it. Perhaps not the best, but it will work in a pinch.

That said, I’m not sure how I feel about this. Sure, the PSVR2 is getting PC support, but very limited PC support. I wonder how the rest of the PC gaming community will feel about this, especially with the lack of features and the fact that the Meta 3 VR headset exists. Still, I’ll at least give PlayStation kudos for making good on its promise of bringing this to the PC. Though, I’m not sure how well this device will sell.
