Marvel Vs Capcom Fighting Collection Announced

Marvel Vs Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics was announced at Nintendo Direct today. With both the Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection and Capcom Fighting Collection out in the wild, it was only a matter of time for this collection to come out of the woodwork. The games once thought lost to both time, game collectors, eBay, and 1up Arcade Cabinets, are now coming to the Nintendo Switch this year. All seven 2D games, starting with the beat-em-up The Punisher and ending with Marvel vs Capcom 2, will be released via digital and physical editions.

  • The Punisher
  • X-Men: Children of the Atom
  • Marvel Super Heroes
  • X-Men Vs. Street Fighter
  • Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Fighter
  • Marvel vs Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes
  • Marvel vs Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes

All games seem to be arcade ports more times than their previously available PlayStation ports for the middle 5, which means that full tag teaming is on. The Punisher seems to be the surprise with this being the first time it’s ever been released onto console. Most of these titles came from the age of the original X-Men: The Animated Series run with their original voice actors reprising their roles(especially Cal Dodd as Wolverine, for instance). The games took inspiration from this show and other Marvel cartoons at the time. The timing of this feels planned as this is the year we’ve been given the X-Men ’97 series on Disney Plus.

The collection outshines the two-game collection Marvel Vs Capcom Origins, which was released nearly a decade ago and is now delisted. Online play, gallery, a more thorough training mode, save states, and jukebox, will be coming to Marvel vs Capcom  Fighting Collection.

According to Fighting Games Daily, the collection will also be coming to PlayStation 4 and Steam. Xbox seems to be the odd one out; as of now, there isn’t a version for the console. They also revealed the cover art. The art looks similar to Bengus’ style, which was responsible for the look and feel of the character portraits.

The news is quite a surprise since Marvel Vs. Capcom: Infinite had less than favorable reviews during its run. Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3 was re-released for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One not too long ago. From what this looks like, it seems as though Capcom has re-released nearly all of their Street Fighter 2D games in the last 5-6 years. The 3 Capcom Vs. SNK titles are among the rest that still remain.

Marvel vs Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics will be available later this year.
